Melania Trump's RNC Speech Analyzed for Resemblances to Michelle Obama’s 2008 Speech

After the celebrated speech of Melania Trump on the opening night of the Republican National Convention on Monday July 18th, many in the packed out arena and around the world were moved by her address only to find out later that portions of her speech were similar to that of first lady Michelle Obama's 2008 speech.

This revelation set off a firestorm of condemnation by Trump's rivals fueled by the media. A Fox report stated that, and I quote: "At least one passage in Melania Trump's speech Monday night seemed to be plagiarized from Michelle Obama's address to the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

Side-by-side comparisons of the transcripts show the text in Trump's address following, nearly to the word, the would-be future first lady's own from the first night of the Democratic convention in Denver nearly eight years ago."

I immediately became curious and anxious to search and see if there was any precedence of this happening before. To my surprise other famous speeches have had their on injection of snippets borrowed or as some would like to call it stolen from speeches given by others over the years.

The following is an article citing an observation and a question (by Tyler Durden Jul 19, 2016 11:46 AM), "Did Michelle Obama also "Borrow" for her 2008 speech?"

You be the judge! "Today's political press has been captivated by the alleged plagiarism by Melania Trump, who is said to have stolen fragments of a speech delivered by Michelle Obama in 2008. The sections in question are the following:

Melania Trump (July 2016): “My parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect.

Michelle Obama (August 2008): “And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.

MT: “They taught me to show the values and morals in my daily life. That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son.
MO: “And Barack Obama and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generations.
MT: “And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow, because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
MO: “Because we want our children, and all children in this nation, to know that the only limit to the height of your achievement is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

“And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.”
And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them...

1992 Book – “...is based upon the application of certain basic truths: that integrity is all important, that your word is your bond, that if you owe a person money you pay him back, that you work hard, enjoy what you do and show a loyalty to those with whom you work and do business. He instilled in me simple, clear cut values and a will to succeed.”"

As I listen to the plethora of criticism leveled at Mrs. Trump I am reminded of an occasion when Jesus said, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her" (John 8:7). Before we start condemning Mrs. Melania Trump, let us first examine ourselves.

The question is, was this just an honest mistake or was it deliberate. I guess we will never know their true intent. But somethings are just too up in your face to ignore. So, how many speeches have gone undetected over the years that are filled with portions taken from previous speeches? I guess that it is all left for the curious and inquisitive mind to explore. It will be interesting to learn what you have uncovered! I need not say more... Please leave your comment below.
